I’ve been getting good at this blogging thing, eh?!
Today’s post is a mini sort of haul/review on my experience with Gerard Cosmetics lipsticks, and the ordering process. Gerard Cosmetics began as the company Whitening Lightning, and I believe started out selling teeth whitening products, before expanding to their lighted lip glosses, BB cream, and now brow products and lipsticks. They are a company who have been gaining in popularity through the beauty community with such beauty gurus as Jaclyn Hill and Shaaanxo creating their own lip products. First off I’m going to pop in a few pictures of the shades I chose before telling you a little about my experience with the products, and ordering via their website.
First off the packaging (because you know I love my packaging!) is just gorgeous. It looks super nice and sleek in gold with ‘Gerard Cosmetics’ written in a simple black font. My only comment is that they feel slightly cheaper than they are – they don’t quite feel as sturdy as lipsticks by the likes of MAC Cosmetics, though this isn’t a massive tick in the ‘cons’ box. Since Gerard Cosmetics were offering their three pack of lipsticks for $29 (around £19) down from $57 with free shipping through their Instagram page, I jumped at the chance to pop them in my basket. The shades I chose were (the super totally not summery) Cherry Cordial, 1995 (one of the shades created by my queen Jaclyn Hill), and Underground – one of their newest releases.
Performance wise I can only really comment on 1995 and Underground since they’re the only ones I’ve worn so far but I am super impressed. All their lipsticks have a satin/matte finish, so they’re not shiny but don’t leave your lips feeling parched. I found 1995 was slightly drier and so emphasised dry lips more, though without being uncomfortable, and I wore Underground today for six hours without topping up and had a million compliments at work. I found they are slightly patchy when you apply them so you do have to work a little to get a completely even look, but it’s nothing that would put me off using them completely.
Now my biggest issue with Gerard Cosmetics was their service in general. Their usual international shipping rate is $9.50 (around £6/7) and takes about 2-3 weeks, neither of these facts I would have a problem with since they even include tracking in their service. However, I had coupon code to get the 3 pack lipstick set with free shipping. A couple weeks later I got a note in my post box saying that my parcel couldn’t be delivered because I had to go pay a customs charge – a whopping £15.37. Now, it does say on their website that they aren’t of fault for any extra charges that could apply through shipping, so I can’t take this up with them, but the guy at the post office said that the company hadn’t paid for anything with the shipping. My friend, who also lives in Britain and who had paid the usual shipping costs for her order, didn’t have this problem and so I’m lead to believe that because I had a free shipping deal and so didn’t pay the $9.50, Gerard Cosmetics didn’t pay for it either and so leaving me to pay three times as much through customs. This wouldn’t bother me if my order hadn’t only been £19! Without ranting on about it I will just say this; I’ll be ordering via Beauty Bay from now on and save myself the hassle and extra charges!
Let me know if you have any experiences with Gerard Cosmetics/Whitening Lightning.
