Hello darling! (Edna, from The Incredibles, voice..?)
I was recently tagged by the fabulous and oh so beautiful Katie at Plus+ Beauty to do this tag, and I thought it was wonderful, so why not do it?! For once I won’t ramble but just quickly, do go read Katie’s post (here) and follow whilst you’re there, you won’t regret it! She posts consistently and always with such high quality, and she’s such a lovely person.
1- How old were you when you started makeup?
I was a dancer kid so technically I was wearing makeup for dance shows from the age of four. Since that doesn’t really count, I started getting back into makeup around high school time (UK high school) so I was about 13-ish.
2- How did you get into makeup?
I don’t specially remember how I got into it, but I do remember my mums friend June teaching me how to apply lipstick when I was a kid, and I always had a fascination around it and couldn’t wait to wear it properly when I was old enough!
3- What are some of your favourite brands?
I love Rimmel London and Maybelline for more ‘drugstore’, and MAC and Urban Decay for more ‘high end’ brands.
4- What does makeup mean to you?
It used to be that I wouldn’t go out without makeup on. It’s not so much that way now, but makeup gives me self-confidence, and even the ritual of putting on my makeup in the morning is so ingrained in my routine I feel weird if I don’t wear it!
5- If you could only wear four products on your face, what would they be?
I think Katie’s got this one down; concealer, powder, mascara, and brows!
6- What is your favourite thing about makeup?
Probably the self-confidence it gives me. I have very little confidence in myself but if I get my winged eyeliner right, or my lipstick looks good, or my foundation looks flawless, it just makes the day that little bit better!
7- What do you think about drugstores VS high end?
I think there’s pros and cons to both sides, though I don’t often buy super high end stuff, I usually stick to more MAC and Urban Decay – the sort of ‘mid range’ brands. Sometime’s you do just pay for a brand name, and often you can find amazing products in the drugstore, though I couldn’t be without my Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes or my MAC lipsticks!
8- What is one piece of advice you could give to a beginner?
A good base is everything. Simple eye makeup, or lip colours can still look stunning with gorgeous skin. Find a foundation that works for you and all the rest is just experimenting.
9- What is one makeup trend you never understood?
I remember when I was in high school and secondary school people used to wear what was often called ‘foundation lips’, i.e. their lip colour was so nude it looked like it was just foundation/concealer, and often actually was. It never looked good and I don’t see how anyone actually thought it did!
10- What do you think of the beauty community on YouTube?
I love beauty videos on YouTube, but I think that YouTube has completely blown up and it’s like they’re the new age celebrities of the internet. I don’t watch as much as I used to because I just don’t have the time like I used to!
And that’s all the questions! I’m going to tag:
Feel free to take it on, or not! And anyone else who is reading this and wants to do this tag, please do!
